understanding yourself

What to expect in therapy with me

I begin all therapy experiences with a free phone consultation. The main purpose of
the phone consultation is to assess your needs and to determine if I can be of service to you. If I can help you, we schedule an in-person appointment. If I cannot help you, I will do my best to provide you with a viable referral to
receive services elsewhere.

1st session

Our first session will take approximately 90 minutes. In this session we will review and sign informed consent paperwork. We will firmly establish your
therapy goals and we will complete a background psychosocial. The psychosocial is often an enriching experience, which helps me to better understand you through the lens of your lifetime experiences.

Ongoing sessions

New clients typically see me on a weekly basis, for sessions that
are 50 minutes in length. As therapy progresses, we will have regular dialogue
about the spacing of your sessions. It is not uncommon for my clients to attend
regular weekly sessions, move to bi-weekly sessions, then graduate to maintenance
sessions. Of course, some clients achieve their therapy goals and graduate from
therapy altogether! It is important, if not vital, to have regular sessions early on in
treatment, to build rapport and establish our working relationship – we will feed off
of this momentum, and strike while the iron is hot!
The majority of my clients attend in-person sessions. I also offer telehealth sessions.
